Yes, the ruling is 'INFLUENCING PLAY'.
Obviously not touching the ball is one factor in ruling that out and have seen cases when players have moved towards the ball & been ok.
Am sure at one point the guidance was playing or ATTEMPTING to play the ball.
Players in front or near the keeper are always a grey area too.

Sven my dear plastic Australian friend..... lets be 100% honest here... if that goal was given against us you'd still be gnashing and moaning... and rightly so... we got away with one... no big deal... it happens... next??

The defender got a touch (or might have done) playing Bowen onside. Then the goalkeeper got a touch (or might have done) playing everyone onside. Penalty in build-up. No clear mistake - no VAR intervention.

Goal. End of story.

A business like win doing what was needed but I can't help but think we will need to play better next weekend particularly if the likes of Bamford play. Thought Lanzini excelled again and must be one of the first names on the teamsheet whilst this form continues.

Quite an amazing cup draw, for the first time for many years it favoured the underdogs giving many smaller teams the draw they might only have dreamed about. Fifth round draw should be interesting!

If we go onto win the fucking thing then just maybe I can understand the autopsy over the first goal. BUT even before VAR the top clubs have constantly WON trophies on the back of getting decisions like this……until we get to that status these things still won’t even out the stuff that has gone against us…..

Spot on that with Vlasic and Lanzini. What I have always liked about Lanzini is that he is an intelligent footballer who very rarely gives the ball away and really comfortable on it. The same was of Vlasic yesterday its also the way they bring players into the game. Vlaisc has made a claim for a starting berth.
Really promising to see....

Northern Sold,

You're missing the point with regards to the dodgy decisions.

Yes, we will have decisions go for us as every club does.

The point is, the bigger clubs have the decisions go their way with far more regularity. And, they're the one's that need the decisions the least. Of course, because of their sense of entitlement, they make it seem like they need the decisions more because they're the ones fighting for the honours. The rest of us are just conditioned to think ' fuck it, we're never going to win anything so does it really matter if the decisions going against us really matter'.

The reason you have to kick up a fuss, is because it's what you have to do to get more decisions go your way .We have to become more like the bigger clubs, if we're to attempt to rub shoulders with them.

I could see Bowen being given off side.
And if it was against us, I’d be pissed off.

Oh well. Trip to Kidderminster.

Good performance, seemed to come through it unscaved and now got a really good tie in the next round.

Thought Vlasic and Lanzini were superb and Declan run the show in 2nd gear.

We hve to win the next two games now. Leeds on sunday will be without Llorente and Firpo i think.

You don’t have to touch the ball to be offside?
I agree with you, I was 100% expecting the goal to be disallowed.

Northern is in a perky mood .... Spurs won & his hero Harry Kane scored I guess.

Since the inception of VAR this is the first controversial (to some) goal decision in our favour that I can recall.
Maybe we really are MASSIVE now?

I could see Bowen being given offside and to be honest I expect most would have given it.
That said he doesnt touch the ball and dont think his action affects the keepers reaction and action.
Also Vlasic was held by the arm and then bundled over.
Not a legitimate attempt at a tackle in either case .... penalty & red card.
Perhaps Leeds should consider themselves fortunate.

Jesus, some you sound like dirty Leeds supporters with your expert analysis of our first goal, Vlasic diving and all sorts of bollocks.

To get to the final of the FA Cup you need a little bit of luck along the way. I thought we more or less dominated with three of our first choice back four out. Moyes didn't even mention it when 99 out of a hundred would have.

Sometimes you remind me of Saint Jerome who went out into the desert and self flagenated himself with a rock

If you can't love being a West Ham supporter at the moment you need to see your GP. Onwards and upwards to the mighty Kidderminster.

Agree with fraser - The first goal was borderline, and when it's that close then they need to give the attacking team the benefit, as football is all about scoring goals. Of course it has to be consistent, and therein lies the problem.

As for Defoe, had a great career and a brutal finisher at his peak, could smash them in from 25 yards too. A class above Cottee.

Just watched us on MOTD. Stephen Warnock is one of the biggest plonkers in football. He knows absolutely fuck all. He once called Red Star Belgrade part timers who have plumbers playing for them. Moron.

Isn’t that similar to what Ince said?

Watched it down a pretty packed boozer... vast majority West Ham... don;t think there was anyone that thought our 1st goal was legit.. way it goes ... went our way today so remember that all the conspiracy woe is me merchants (Sven and coe) in the future... pretty shit 2nd half but all in all just shaded it to get in the next round...

Kaiser - 6 clean sheets in 9

The way he demanded the area and claimed that corner first half was very impressive. We’re not used to that with Fab.

However Fab has largely been great this season - nice problem having 2 very good keepers.

Didn’t dive at all. He slipped.

He still appealed and got the free kick, but that’s different to deliberately diving.

Although Fabianski hasn’t done much wrong all season, Areola looks a better keeper
